Action Music offers guitar lessons (and only guitar) for all ages, 7 and above, in our spacious lesson room. There is a small waiting area for parents and incoming students. All transactions related to lessons (financial, scheduling, etc.) are between the student and the teacher, not Action Music. Michael has over 30 years of experience as a performer and instructor. He has been involved as a guitarist, producer, and arranger in numerous recording sessions and touring, as well as in radio and television. As a composer, Michael has had works commissioned for theater, recording artists, and commercial jingles. Former students of his have earned notable jazz awards and music scholarships.
Michael’s studies include the Berklee College of Music where he earned a Bachelor of Applied Music in guitar, and the Eastman School of Music. He has studied with such jazz notables as Gene Bertoncini and Mick Goodrick.

Guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, plectrum banjo; harmony (music theory) leading toward improvisation and composing John has been teaching since 1967 in cities including London, England; Toronto, Buffalo and Rochester, NY; and Northern Virginia. He has been performing in the genres of jazz, blues, Dixieland, folk, celtic, swing, big band, and Broadway, among others. He has worked with session players who have accompanied numerous artists, such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Gene Krupa, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, MyCoy Tyner, Dina Washington, and Perry Como. John’s education includes:
- Post Graduate studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, Canada
- Graduate studies in arranging, orchestration, and composition at SUNY Buffalo, NY
- Private studies in guitar, harmony, arranging, orchestration, and piano
John teaches Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
Anthony has been teaching privately in the Washington, DC area for the past 8 years. He has also performed professionally in the DC area, New York, around the West and East Coasts, and on Nationwide tours. Anthony is proficient in jazz, blues, rock, country, rockabilly, surf, experimental, free improv, and electronic styles of music. He founded Sonic Mass Record and has released 5 recordings, and has been featured on over 20 records released by several musical acts in the US and overseas.
Anthony’s performances have been featured on television and film, and he’s been written up in Guitar Player Magazine, Downbeat, The Washington Post, The Washington City Paper, and AllMusic.com
Anthony teaches on Thursdays and Fridays.
